What is London Sculpture Week?

  • London Sculpture Week celebrates London’s creative spirit by transforming public spaces across the city with inspiring outdoor sculptures by a wide range of artists. The week is packed with public art tours, performances, and workshops to demonstrate the value of public art and reflect London’s cultural landscape. With the London Sculpture Week guide on Bloomberg Connects, you can learn about the initiative and explore everything they have to offer.

When is London Sculpture Week?

  • It starts on Saturday September 21 and runs until Sunday September 29.

Who is behind London Sculpture Week?

  • The event is a collaboration between four major cultural initiatives: Frieze Sculpture, the Fourth Plinth, Sculpture in the City, and The Line. You can find guides to these institutions on Bloomberg Connects, but, in the meantime, here’s a quick introduction to each initiative.

1. Frieze Sculpture is a free outdoor exhibition held in Regent’s Park hosted by Frieze – a platform for modern and contemporary art that publishes art magazines and holds numerous international art fairs.

2. The Fourth Plinth is one of the most important art commissions in the world. The Mayor of London invites artists to make sculptures for the once-empty plinth in Trafalgar Square.

3. Sculpture in the City is an annual sculpture park set amongst the architecture of the City of London. A new selection of artworks by acclaimed and emerging artists is unveiled each year.

4. The Line is East London’s public art trail, running between Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2, following the waterways and the Greenwich Meridian.
